Gemar App

Gemar is a world-renowned balloon manufacturer with over four generations proudly supplying products to wholesale distributors and retailers. With evolving customer needs demanding mobile-first buying experiences, Gemar wanted to offer customers an easy-to-use and efficient way to browse products, quickly place orders, and manage purchases from anywhere.

The project began with one primary goal in mind: build a mobile application that could scan barcodes and instantly retrieve product information. However, as meetings continued, both parties realized this was an opportunity to do something bigger. Gemar was looking for a full-fledged ecommerce mobile app that could service both wholesale and retail customers, while integrating with the business’s current systems.

Working together with Ecommerce Excellence, Gemar brought their vision to life with a custom Flutter application that blended smart barcode scanning with ecommerce capabilities and live integrations with back-end systems. The end-result was a mobile solution that streamlined ordering processes, enhanced customer engagement, and offered a seamless purchase experience for both B2B and B2C customers.

Gemar wanted more than just a mobile app. They needed a website customers could use to make ordering as easy as possible, while offering features that would service the needs of both wholesale and retail customers.

• Barcode App turns Ecommerce Website: Originally tasked with creating an app for scanning barcodes, it rapidly became clear that more features were needed to offer the full breadth of services Gemar had to offer. The trick was packing all these features in without cluttering the UI.
• Accommodating Wholesale and Retail Customers: Wholesale customers and retail customers place orders differently and will use the ordering system in different ways. To cater for both, Seam Heads were asked to create two distinct user experiences, while still keeping with Gemar’s branding.
• Instant Access to Product Information: Customers would scan barcodes to pull up information about each individual product. Retrieving the correct information as quickly as possible and displaying it to the user – along with an option to add that product to their basket – was paramount.
• Integrating with Back End Systems: Barcode scans would need to integrate with inventory management systems, price lists and other parts of Gemar’s business systems. Making sure this information stayed in sync across all channels was a must.
• Scaling to Meet Traffic Demands: High traffic needed to be accounted for – Gemar has a huge catalogue of products and was expecting customers to browse through much of it before placing an order. Speed was important.

Gemar had the initial idea and vision, and Ecommerce Excellence created a custom Flutter app to realize Gemar’s concept into a fully-functional mobile ecommerce solution.

• Smart Barcode Scanner – Simply scan the barcode of any product to view its information, then add it directly to your basket. It’s all-stock items, so this makes reordering quicker than ever.
• Mobile-Friendly Shopping Experience – From browsing products to searching for specific items, managing your account to viewing your basket, and finally checking out – our app has everything your customers need.
• B2B & B2C Flows – We created dedicated buying experiences for wholesale customers and retail purchasers. Each customer type has buying flows catered to their ordering needs.
• Integrated with Your Systems – Product availability, pricing, customer accounts and orders are all integrated with your current systems. No information is out of sync when you or your customers are using our app.
• Optimized for Mobile – We designed the app with an emphasis on making the ordering process as smooth as possible. Minimizing the friction required for customers to find and buy your product will lead to more repeat sales.
